Panel: Manufacturing Institutes:
What we've learned in the last five years

10:30a - 11:30a Wednesday, December 6

The Obama administration launched what was then called the National Network of Manufacturing Innovation to great fanfare in 2012. This network was a key part of a strategy to reinvigorate manufacturing in the United States. America Makes, the first institute in what is now called Manufacturing USA, started in August 2012. Five years later, there are now eight active DoD funded institutes. This panel brings together leaders from three of these institutes to share stories about running an institute including:

• The technologies they have developed and transitioned
• What are the hard things about managing this unique business model
• What they know now that they wish they knew when their contracts were awarded
• What has been their impact to the defense industrial base
